The very first Italian gelato portal, for both gelato makers and gelato lovers
. . . .
It is no coincidence that in the United States Italian-style hand-made gelato is simply called “gelato” and not translated into English, which distinguishes it from ”ice cream”, or industrially produced ice cream: this shows that the product is widely regarded as having indisputable quality and unique style.
In Italy ,we consider hand-made gelato to be a good healthy habit, a daily part of our culture and one of our favourite snacks since early childhood. Abroad, however, hand-made gelato is more of a niche phenomenon: going out for a gelato is a little like going out to a restaurant or a fashionable café or bar, where you go to socialize and take a break from the daily grind.
The areas currently offering the best prospects are the Middle East, North Africa, Russia, Australia, the United States, South America, and nearby Spain. In terms of location, tourist areas, historic centers, and all centers of nightlife are preferable, especially for a gelato café.
As for marketing, it has become of strategic importance to study your product, which has to be in line with local tastes, whereas marketing your shop or café should be aimed at emotive issues such as Italian style and the exclusivity of being “Made in Italy”.
