Gelato Day

On March 24th of every year, all gelato makers and dessert lovers across Europe come together to celebrate European Artisan Gelato Day, the only day the European Parliament has ever dedicated to a food: a unique opportunity to promote artisan knowledge throughout Europe, which has always been an expression of quality, authenticity, and local identity. It also serves to support the high-quality production of Italian traditional artisan gelato, one of those few products that can unite everyone, appreciated by both young and old all over the world for its genuineness and, above all, for its deliciousness.

A unique feature of Gelato Day is the “Flavor of the Year,” which is offered on March 24th in all gelaterias participating in the event. For the 13th edition, the 2025 Flavor of the Year will be “Hallelujah,” sponsored by the Dicastery for Evangelization for the 2025 Jubilee and the MASAF (Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry).

The official recipe was chosen in the competition organized by Artglace during SIGEP WORLD – The World Expo for Foodservice Excellence 2025: a delicious gianduia with toasted hazelnuts, enriched with a swirl of pure chocolate. “Hallelujah” will therefore be the undisputed star of Gelato Day 2025. The celebrations will begin on Sunday, March 23rd, with the offering of the Flavor of the Year to pilgrims, accompanied by a charity fundraising event in Piazza Pio XII, near St. Peter’s. Finally, on March 24th, it will be offered in all gelaterias participating in Gelato Day, both in the "original" version following the official recipe, and revisited by gelato masters from all over Europe with ingredients and inspirations from their local regions.

The collaboration with Gambero Rosso, which this year will involve gelaterias from the renowned Gelaterie d'Italia guide, brings the true taste of Italian excellence. These gelaterias will take part in the March 24th celebrations, preparing the Flavor of the Year as only the best gelato makers in Italy can do: with skill, technique, but above all creativity and passion, offering unexpected variations of the "Hallelujah" Flavor of the Year. Between cones and cups, preparations are already underway for European Artisan Gelato Day 2025, which will bring events and initiatives across Europe, animating all cities to celebrate and promote the culture of artisan gelato. All the information for the next edition of Gelato Day is available on the website www.gelato-day.com, as well as on the official Gelato Day accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, because there’s nothing better than sharing great artisan gelato, one of Italy’s most beloved sweets around the world.
