Rimini, December 27, 2022 – Artisanal gelato will take center stage at SIGEP – The Dolce World Expo. The event, organized by Italian Exhibition Group from January 21 to 25, 2023, at the Rimini Fair, dedicates 12 pavilions and the Gelato Arena to the sector, where a rich program of events will take place, featuring world-class professionals. Gelato will serve as the common thread among various sectors, with gelato makers collaborating with pastry chefs. This will be a fantastic opportunity for top-level training, showcasing the Masters at work, and introducing new products and technologies used in gelato production. The sector trends will also be spotlighted, thanks to the participation of leading associations, including Associazione Italiana Gelatieri, Artglace, CNA, Confartigianato, and Federazione Artigianale Gelatieri.
Key Competitions and Events
The 2023 edition will also bring back major international competitions hosted in the newly added Dolce Arena. The Gelato Europe Cup will be held here, selecting European teams for the 10th Gelato World Cup, organized by Sigep in collaboration with Con.pa.It, the Italian Pastry Confederation, and promoted by the Gelato World Cup Organizing Committee, chaired by Maestro Giancarlo Timballo.
The Gelato Arena is the heart of the "cold sweet" industry area. This space will host demonstrations with masters and champions, highlighting gelato expertise, product innovations, and technology. Over five days, there will be educational sessions with international speakers who will inspire visitors by sharing knowledge and presenting current and future industry scenarios.
Gelato Festival and Competitions
Among the international competitions, the Gelato Festival World Masters’ German selection will take place on Sunday, January 22, 2023. The winners will qualify for the 2024 World Gelato Championship. The following day, January 23, the same stage will host Gambero Rosso, which will use SIGEP as the platform to present its 2023 Guide to Italy’s Best Gelaterias. On January 24, CNA Agroalimentare will honor its associates in four categories: career, innovation, young talent, and female-led gelaterias.
Other Initiatives
Several exciting events will also take place at exhibitor stands: The "Gelatiere of the Year" will be crowned in a competition promoted by the Associazione Italiana Gelatieri (Pad. C5), where professionals will compete in various challenges, such as the Memorial Alberto Pica (hazelnut gelato), “A Thousand Ideas for a New Gelato Flavor of the Year,” “Excellence in Gelato Cakes,” and “Sorbets from Around the World.”
Artglace, the association behind Gelato Day, the only day dedicated to a food by the European Parliament, will present the 2023 flavor, “Apfelstrudel,” at SIGEP (Pad. C7). The association will also host a full program of demonstrations with award-winning gelato makers such as Thomas Infanti, Guido Zardonà, and Alberto Gobbi.
The Sicilian Granita World Championship, Trofeo Polvere di Stelle (for the best lemon granita), and the international “Carrettino d’Oro” competition (January 23) – this year focusing on hazelnut gelato – will take place at the stand of the Federazione Italiana Gelatieri (Pad. C4).
Finally, Confartigianato will provide great visibility to its members at its stand (Pad. A4), where they will hold two daily demonstrations, reworking traditional recipes based on contemporary flavor trends.
