European Artisan Gelato Day: Longarone Fiere and MIG take the lead

Artisan gelato is getting a sparkling twist, setting the stage for an exciting celebration. On Sunday, March 12, in Valdobbiadene, during the ancient San Gregorio Fair, the Prosecco Gelato was introduced, celebrating the UNESCO World Heritage Prosecco Hills. This tasty preview—pun intended—was part of the lead-up to the European Artisan Gelato Day, set for Friday, March 24.

 

A Celebration of Made in Italy Excellence

European Artisan Gelato Day was officially established by the European Parliament in summer 2012 with a resolution reflecting major trends in consumption and food choices. It serves as a moment to celebrate one of Italy’s most iconic food products and gastronomic excellenceartisan gelato. More than just a celebration, it’s also a chance to protect this artisan product, which is worth nearly 1 billion euros annually, crafted with passion, high-quality raw materials, and a heritage of knowledge passed down through generations.

 

Longarone Fiere Dolomiti at the Forefront

Longarone Fiere Dolomiti, the organization that first conceived the Gelato Day during MIG 2008, has already started the countdown to the March 24 celebration. Yesterday, they launched the Prosecco Gelato in Valdobbiadene, made using Italy’s most famous DOCG sparkling wine. The Prosecco Superiore Gelato, crafted by Marco Reato of Gelateria Gimmy and Bruno Da Dalt of Boutique del Gelato, was met with enthusiastic appreciation from the public.

 

Upcoming Events and More Surprises

In the coming days, and in conjunction with the opening of Agrimont, the mountain agriculture fair scheduled for the upcoming weekend, another special gelato will be promoted: the Apfelstrudel Gelato, the official flavor of the 2023 Gelato Day chosen by Artglace. This flavor will also be featured by the AGIA (Italian Gelato Association in Austria), showcasing a wonderful fusion of traditional flavors and innovation.
