Longarone, November 25, 2024 – The new edition of the European Day of Artisan Gelato is officially launching, marking March 24 each year as the start of the season for one of the world’s most beloved desserts. A delicious bridge between nations, artisan gelato is the only food to have its own official day designated by the European Parliament. Since 2012, it has become a symbol of craftsmanship, quality, authenticity, and territoriality, uniting all of Europe with events, meetings, initiatives, and of course, cones and cups. This unmissable event celebrates the tradition, quality, and artistry of a product that brings together cultures and flavors. For this special 13th edition, Gelato Day 2025 will be dedicated to the Jubilee and supported by the Dicastery for Evangelization, a recognition that highlights the cultural and spiritual significance of the event, which will attract pilgrims from all over the world to St. Peter's.
FLAVOR OF THE YEAR 2025
The announcement comes at the 64th MIG - International Exhibition of Artisan Gelato in Longarone, where the Flavor of the Year for the European Day of Artisan Gelato was revealed. This flavor is the star of each edition and is chosen by a different European country each year. After Belgium’s “Gaufre de Liège” for the 2024 edition, the Flavor of the Year 2025 will be “Hallelujah”, a tribute to the culinary tradition intertwined with the spirit of the Jubilee. Its official recipe will be selected through a competition held during the SIGEP - The Dolce World Expo, scheduled for January 18-22, 2025, at the Rimini Fair. Gelato makers from all over Europe will be invited to create gelato inspired by the Jubilee, conveying a message of peace, welcome, and sharing, aimed not only at pilgrims but also at all gelato lovers.
“Hallelujah” will therefore be the main feature of Gelato Day 2025. The celebrations will begin on Sunday, March 23, with the offering of the Flavor of the Year to the pilgrims, alongside a charity fundraising event in Piazza Pio XII, near St. Peter’s. Finally, on March 24, the gelato will be available in all gelaterias participating in Gelato Day, both in its “original” version according to the official recipe and reinterpreted by master gelato makers from across Europe with local ingredients and inspirations.
