October 3, 2023 — Rome, Italy
In celebration of the Ryder Cup 2023, world-renowned gelato artisan Eugenio Morrone, 2020 Gelato World Champion and member of the Hall of Fame World Ranking (2022), unveiled a special flavor dedicated to golf and sustainability: “Green Ice.” The gelato was officially presented at the exclusive "Italy Best Golf Night" held at the Trajan’s Markets, one of Rome’s most iconic historical venues.

🌱 “Green Ice”: A Tribute to Golf and the Green Planet

The flavor’s name, Green Ice, is both a nod to the sport of golf—with its lush green fairways—and a symbol of eco-conscious innovation. The recipe uses only short-supply-chain ingredients to highlight Italian excellence and reduce environmental impact:

  • 🥛 High-quality milk and cream from the Agro Romano region
  • 🍬 Unrefined Italian beet sugar
  • 🥜 Lightly toasted Sicilian pistachios, freshly refined on-site

All ingredients are locally sourced, ensuring greater traceability, food safety, and support for regional producers.

“The future of artisan gelato lies in combining great flavor with low environmental impact,” said Morrone. “We use cutting-edge machinery with reduced water and energy consumption, and all production steps are carried out cold, preserving the gelato’s health benefits and eliminating the need for heat sources.”

🌍 A Sustainable Vision for the Future of Gelato

Morrone is widely regarded as a pioneer of sustainable gelato making. Known for his constant experimentation and deep research into raw materials, he continues to push the boundaries of the artisan gelato world. Green Ice is the perfect embodiment of this vision—connecting the refinement of Italian gelato with climate-friendly practices.

His concept embraces:

  • Cold-processing techniques
  • Energy-efficient equipment
  • Elimination of thermal pasteurization
  • Zero artificial additives or colorants

📍 Where to Taste “Green Ice”

Visitors and locals can enjoy Green Ice at Morrone’s award-winning gelateria Fior di Luna, located in the heart of Rome’s vibrant Trastevere district:

Fior di Luna – Via della Lungaretta 96, Rome, Italy

🏌️‍♂️ Gelato Meets Golf: Why It Matters

This special release underlines how artisanal Italian gelato can go beyond dessert and become part of international events like the Ryder Cup, promoting not only taste but also Italian culture, sustainability, and innovation. It’s a strong signal of how traditional crafts can align with global movements and environmental goals.
