Olympic-inspired Artisanal Gelato takes the stage at the Cortina World Cup

Beneath the Tofane peaks, MIG and artisan gelato makers from the Triveneto region unveiled the "Slalom"

Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy – Under the snowy peaks of the Tofane mountains, the spotlight was on “A Gelato for the Olympics”, an initiative presented by MIG Longarone in collaboration with the Artisanal Gelato Makers of Triveneto. During the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup weekend in Cortina, a brand-new gelato flavor called “Slalom” made its debut—and it was an instant crowd-pleaser.

Crafted by gelato artisans Filippo Bano and Elena Stefania Alecu, Slalom is a gourmet, artisanal gelato dessert that blends bold and unexpected flavors. The recipe features raw milk, sweet gorgonzola cream, and wild pepper, offering a creamy, enveloping experience with a spicy finish—perfectly evoking the thrill and twists of a slalom race. The gelato was served in the exclusive lounge area at the finish line of the races, where it delighted athletes and guests alike.

“Slalom” was created in the spirit of the upcoming Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, as part of a contest launched by the International Exhibition of Artisanal Gelato (MIG) in partnership with the National Committee of Artisanal Gelato Makers and Gelatieri Artigiani del Triveneto.

The competition began in 2023 and will continue until the Olympic Games in 2026, with the goal of identifying the flavor that best represents the iconic five-ring event.

“Gelato is deeply tied to the identity of the Belluno region,” says Michele Dal Farra, President of Longarone Fiere Dolomiti. “And there’s no better promotion than sharing this ‘cold delight’ beneath one of the Dolomites’ most symbolic mountains, during one of the most prestigious events in winter sports. From now until 2026, Olympic-inspired gelato flavors like Slalom will serve as sweet mascots for the upcoming Games.”

With its fusion of flavor, tradition, and Olympic spirit, Slalom marks the beginning of a delicious journey toward Milan-Cortina 2026—where artisanal Italian gelato will once again take center stage.
