SIGEP 2024: Rimini Municipality and IEG's efforts to ease traffic impact

Enhanced train and bus services, road interventions, and solutions to reduce traffic congestion.
Efficient train-Metromare connection: 52 daily trains will stop at Rimini Fiera and Rimini Station for internal connections. Five special trains daily between Cattolica and Santarcangelo. The opening of a large roundabout to ease traffic near the Rimini Sud highway exit. Dozens of additional bus routes, discounts for electric scooter and bike usage.

Rimini, 11 January 2024 – SIGEP 2024, organized by Italia Exhibition Group (IEG), is set to be an extraordinary edition in terms of exhibitor and visitor participation, from January 20th to 24th at the Rimini Exhibition Center. With a full house announced not only for the exhibition halls but also for accommodations and local businesses, Rimini Municipality and IEG have been working together for weeks to ensure easy access to the venue, increase visibility, and enhance the economic impact on the region.

Roberta Frisoni, Mobility Assessor for the Municipality of Rimini, explains, "We are expecting an extraordinary edition of SIGEP, with 500 hotels in Rimini nearly fully booked just 10 days before the event. These large numbers will significantly impact city traffic, especially in the northern quadrant, particularly during peak entry and exit times from the exhibition center. For this reason, we’ve been working on joint solutions with IEG to minimize the disruptions caused by such a high-profile event, especially with the ongoing major infrastructure works by Anas on State Road 16. As part of this effort, we’ve managed to accelerate interventions such as the opening of the 100-meter diameter roundabout that will improve traffic flow in the area.”

Corrado Peraboni, CEO of IEG, adds, “We are aware of the traffic disruption that major events can cause, especially during peak times, but the economic benefits and the promotion of off-season tourism generated by these events justify the inconvenience, as local residents understand. The real breakthrough will come in 2026 when the Metromare will extend to the exhibition center. Until then, we will do everything possible, including investing in measures to reduce the disruptions to the city.”

52 TRAINS STOPPING AT RIMINI FIERA STATION, SIGEP SPECIAL TRAIN AND METROMARE BENEFITS

For 45 years, SIGEP has been the world's leading professional exhibition for the sector, spanning five days. Historically, Mondays and Tuesdays see the highest influx of visitors, creating the most traffic impact. The use of trains and the synergy with Metromare will be crucial to reducing traffic. Significant investments have been made to ensure smooth travel for all attendees.

Every day, from 8:05 AM to 7:17 PM, 26 trains will stop at Rimini Fiera Station, and the same number of trains will operate in the opposite direction between 8:28 AM and 7:20 PM. In total, these 52 trains will transport over 20% of the visitors to the event, and all will stop at the central Rimini Station, offering easy access to hotels via Metromare, which connects Rimini to Riccione in 20 minutes with 15 intermediate stops.

In addition, a Special SIGEP Train will run with departures from Cattolica and Santarcangelo stations to Rimini Fiera. Afternoon services will return visitors to these stations. Special trains will stop at Rimini Fiera, Rimini, Miramare, Riccione, and Misano.
Thanks to an agreement between Italian Exhibition Group and Trenitalia, the "Special Events" offer will provide discounts up to 80% on Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, and Frecciabianca tickets with origin/destination Rimini and Rimini Fiera. Tickets can be purchased through Trenitalia's app, authorized travel agencies, or on www.trenitalia.com. Special assistance for passengers with reduced mobility will be available at Rimini Fiera Station.

METROMARE

The electrified, dedicated lane will transport thousands of people daily between Rimini and Riccione. With a frequency of 15 minutes, Metromare will manage the traffic flows generated by SIGEP, serving both operators and visitors from the early morning until late evening.

THE 100-METER DIAMETER ROUNDABOUT

A crucial element to ease traffic will be the opening of the 100-meter diameter roundabout, which intersects State Road 16 with the San Marino Expressway and the Rimini Sud highway exit. This new infrastructure will significantly improve connectivity between major roads, the city center, the sea, and the exhibition center.

DOZENS OF ADDITIONAL BUS SERVICES

With terminals in Santarcangelo and the airport, Line 9 will have a stop at Via Emilia-Fiera, with buses running every 15 minutes during peak hours.
Other services include Line 9 Shuttle, connecting Rimini Fiera to Rimini Station with 22 nonstop services. Line 5, with terminals at San Mauro Mare and Rimini Fiera, and Line 10, from Miramare to Rimini Fiera, will also be running frequently.
Special free buses provided by IEG will operate from key locations: Bus A (to Miramare), Bus B (to Marina Centro), Bus C (to Bellaria Igea Marina), Bus D (to Riccione), and Bus E (to Viserbella).

BIT Mobility will also offer new users 20 minutes of free rides with the code SIGEPBIT.
