SIGEP China returns: second edition kicks off in Shenzhen

From April 24 to 26, the Italian Exhibition Group brings the world of artisan gelato, pastry, and coffee to the heart of Southern China, alongside Anuga Select China – the region’s leading food fair organized by Koelnmesse.

Shenzhen, China – April 22, 2024 – The second edition of SIGEP China opens its doors at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre from April 24 to 26, in conjunction with Anuga Select China, hosted by Italian Exhibition Group (IEG) through IEG China and Koelnmesse. With over 500 exhibiting brands from 30 countries, this key international event showcases the excellence of the Italian and European sweet foodservice industry, mirroring the legacy of SIGEP Rimini, the world-renowned fair dedicated to gelato, pastry, chocolate, bakery, and coffee.

Leading Global Brands on Display

Top Italian and European companies will take center stage in Shenzhen, representing the very best in ingredients and equipment:

  • Ingredients: Babbi, Di Saronno, Mec3, Irca, Valrhona
  • Machinery: Carpigiani, Ice Team, Rhea, Nuova Simonelli, Eureka

The show is divided into three main thematic areas: Gelato & Pastry, Bakery, and Coffee, and features top-tier competitions, including the Pastry Queen China Selection and the Bread in the City China Qualifier.

 

SHENZHEN: THE ECONOMIC POWERHOUSE OF THE GREATER BAY AREA

As the economic hub of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen is a strategic choice for expanding the visibility of Italian artisan pastry and gelato culture in Asia. The region represents one of China’s most dynamic markets, valued at over USD 1.7 trillion. During the first edition of SIGEP China, 40% of attendees were key decision-makers, with notable participation from China, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and the USA.

 

FEATURED AREAS AND COMPETITIONS

Gelato & Pastry Area

The spotlight is on the Pastry Queen China Selection, which will determine the pastry chef representing China at the 2025 World Pastry Queen Championship. Six chefs will compete under the guidance of jury president Louie Ye, one of China’s most respected Gelato & Pastry chefs.

Bakery Area

Here, the Chinese qualifiers for the Bread in the City World Bakery Championship will take place, with 8 teams of 2 bakers each competing. The event is co-organized with Richemont Club China, represented by head judge Gino Cao.

Coffee Area

Coffee enthusiasts will enjoy brewing and latte art competitions, curated by Coffee T&I, one of Asia’s top magazines for coffee, tea, and gelato trends.

A dedicated Forum Area, inspired by the Vision Plaza at SIGEP Rimini, will host thought leadership talks on the five main sectors: gelato, pastry, bakery, chocolate, and coffee.

 

LOOKING AHEAD TO SIGEP ASIA IN SINGAPORE

SIGEP China 2024 marks a significant milestone in IEG’s strategic expansion into Asia, paving the way for the inaugural edition of SIGEP Asia, taking place June 26–28, 2024 in Singapore. The new show will include:

  • Café Asia
  • International Coffee & Tea Asia
  • Sweets & Bakes Asia

This comprehensive event will provide a global stage for artisan gelato, pastry, baking, coffee, and tea sectors, further reinforcing SIGEP’s international leadership.
